Mac Mini part 1

I have upgraded from a PC to a Mac Mini, and I think it is fantastic. It may only be a small computer but it is very powerful. What attracted me to the Mac is the fact that it "just works" out of the box, and provides a host of useful software. Also it has wireless networking and Bluetooth built in, something that many Windows desktop PC's do not feature, as I suspect that PC makers do not think that users need these on anything but a laptop.

What I like about the Mac Mini is that can bring your existing keyboard, mouse and monitor with you to your Mini from your PC, thus keeping the cost down, and I think because of this many Windows PC owners might consider switching to a Mac, because a Mac is more stable than a PC due to being built on a UNIX operating system environment.

Microsoft and other PC makes have a lot to learn from the Mini, mainly due to the shape as it is much smaller than a PC, looks elegant, and would not be out of place sitting in a living room. Also the amount of software built in to it is fantastic as well, and includes iLife 06 the fantastic suit of programs that can edit movies, photos, make a website and more. iSync for syncing with a mobile phone, PDA or .mac account on the web, the excellent Safari web browser, and Mail, iCal and Address Book.

As I learn more about my Mac there will be more to say in my blog, so stay tuned.

Spam Spam Spam

Recently I joined a fantastic Spam reducing service - Blue Frog at http://www.bluesecurity.com They run a Do Not Intrude Registry, and work towards reducing the amount of spam their members get in there inbox. The biggest problem when getting spam is that there is no point opting out of future spam from that email address, but by being a Blue Frog member, Blue Frog counts the number of people that have received spam from that email address and sends a complaint on their behalf meaning that Blue Frog may well be complaining on behalf of over a thousand people. The best thing is that spammers never find out your e-mail address, as that is kept in secure encryption by Blue Frog and not revealed to anyone

This has worked out great, I have had less Spam emails in my inbox as a result, which means im not spending time removing them from my inbox. However in the last week, Blue Frog has been attacked by a major internet spammer who has brought the service to its knees, meaning that I have had 40+ spam messages in 1 email account alone per day. This major internet spammer has been quoted as saying that if he cant spam people then there will be no internet. See this article for more information. I don't think that this is right, and I hope that this spammer is arrested and imprisoned for a long time, and banned from owning or using computers as spamming is illegal and so is trying to control the internet.

I hope that in years to come spam will be a thing of the past
